The first edition of the Green Group's Climate Adaptation Accelerator in 2023 supported innovation in the agrifood sector. The six selected startups received four months’ capacity-building support through group workshops and 1:1 mentoring sessions on value architecture, business models, marketing and traction building, resource management and costing.
The programme culminated in a Demo Day at COP28, at which the startups pitched their innovative solutions in front of the global community and an expert jury, composed of Dr. Khalil Ammar (Programme Leader, ICBA), Anas BaChar (Managing Director, Sprezzatura Advisors), Alexander Kappes (CEO, Greener Crop) and Sonia Weymuller (Co-Founder and General Partner, VentureSouq).
As the winning startup Circa Biotech from United Arab Emirates was selected, which upcycles organic waste into protein-rich animal feed. In addition to solving the food waste issue, it also reduces methane emissions by providing an alternative to the traditional decomposition of organic waste in landfills. The Green Group will provide the winner with an additional two months’ access to market support.
On behalf of the Green Group, the startups were welcomed and congratulated by the Slovenian Minister of the Environment, Climate and Energy Bojan Kumer and the UAE Permanent Representative to IRENA Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany.
On the same occasion, the Green Group launched also its Knowledge Hub on Water Solutions, a curated selection of capacity-building courses on the most pressing water challenges, which are freely available in English, French and Spanish on this website.
