Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant as a Source of Bisphenols in the Environment

The author presents a study that focused on the presence of bisphenols in the environment (namely, in sludge and effluent) as a direct consequence of the municipal wastewater treatment. Firstly, the author outlines some characteristics of bisphenols and their sources, as well as the ways in which they can reach people. She presents the aims of the research, and the possibilities of the removal of bisphenols from wastewater. She then explains the methods of work and the case study of Domžale-Kamnik wastewater treatment plant and finally concludes that wastewater treatment plants should be upgraded to advanced treatment technologies.
